The leaves are starting to turn bight colors and the air holds a tantalizing crispness. ‘Tis the fall season. A time for cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, pumpkins, corn mazes and apple picking. I (along with the majority of bloggers it seems!) LOVE fall. If ever there was a place where fall was the only season I would pack up and and move there before another leaf could hit the ground.
With all the color and inspiration fall brings I have found it fitting to open this blog with a fall theme creation. A simple wreath that is cheap, fun and easy to make. Below is a tutorial although it is pretty self-explanatory from the photo.
Jack-O-Lantern Wreath
Materials:
Wreath Form
Orange Yarn
Green Yarn
Toilet Paper Tube
Fishing Line
Cardstock
Ribbon and/or Twine
Green Floral Wire
Scissors
Tape
Glue
You can use any size and style wreath form. I used a 12 inch wreath for the finished product. For the tutorial I have used a 9 inch form. I like to use a dollar store wreath. They are cheap and give great texture when wrapped! However a smooth wreath form will work fine. Experiment with color as well! Pumpkins come in all shades of orange, yellow, green and white! Use whatever colors fit your theme.
Step One: Cut slits on either side of the toilet paper tube. Tie yarn around wreath form. Attach tube to wreath by wrapping the yarn around it and the wreath. I like to make it somewhat pretty by criss-crossing the yarn.
Step Two: Wrap the yarn around the wreath form. You will begin to see a nice texture coming through! I try and keep one side “pretty” and not care to much about the back side. I try to be careful but gaps and overlaps happen! That is how you know it is handmade 😉
Step 3: Once you are finished wrapping the whole wreath tie the orange yarn around the wreath. Secure with a dab of glue. Then tie on your stem color at the base of the tube. Again, wrap away! Spread glue along rim of tube to secure yarn to tube. I also decided to pinch and glue the top together to give it a flatter look. Embellish stem with ribbon, twine and floral wire.
Step Four: This is kind of optional. You could stop here and have a very cute pumpkin. I almost did! But then I thought, “I want this to have a bit more of a Halloween theme” so I added a face! I cut out eyes, a nose and a grin from card stock. Place your wreath on a table and arrange the face how you want it. From the position of the eyes measure and cut 2 pieces of fishing line leaving enough to tie to your wreath on both sides. Then cut a short piece to tie in between the two long pieces for the nose. Tie strings to wreath and attach face with tape from the back of the pieces. Make sure your strings are taught, otherwise you will have a saggy face and no one wants that! *Note when tying the long pieces make sure that they are close enough at the bottom of the wreath to attach the mouth. The corners of the mouth are attached to both the eye strings.
Voila! A Jack-O-Lantern Wreath just in time for Halloween!
Hope you all enjoy this tutorial!
Happy Fall!!
